Timeshare Exchange Companies & Programs | How Exchanges WorkTimeshare FAQ
What are timeshare exchange companies and how do exchanges work? Exchange companies allow a timeshare owner to exchange time at their home resort for a stay at a different affiliated property all over the world.
If you have ever owned at a vacation resort chances are that you have probably heard of, or even used the services of a timeshare exchange company.
Although there are quite a few timeshare exchange companies, there are two programs that are most commonly used are RCI and II. And since RCI and II provide similar services, they are both competitors.
Some Resorts Have The Network Integrated Already!
Whether you need the services that timeshare exchange companies have to offer depends on your home resort, or which vacation resort you are currently with. Some resorts actually negotiate with RCI and have exchange network fees built right into their maintenance fees so you don't have to worry about it at all!
If you do need a timeshare exchange company to trade your week for a week at another resort in a different location and your home resort does not include the fees in their maintenance fee, you will need to pay a membership fee at one of the separate timeshare exchange companies such as RCI or Interval International.
Paying a membership fee at timeshare exchange companies like RCI or Interval International allows you to go to all the resorts in any location, even timeshare resorts that are not a part of your home resort, allowing you to have a lot more freedom in choosing where you would like to vacation from year to year, and with which vacation resort.
Before purchasing a timeshare, it is a good idea to see whether it is affiliated with II or RCI exchange companies. Chances are you won’t want to vacation at your same location year after year, and will eventually want to venture out and stay at different resorts using an exchange service.
For example, if you and your spouse like taking the kids to Disney every summer, but also love the luxurious amenities that Hilton provides, you would want to look into purchasing a timeshare that uses RCI as its affiliated exchange company.
Regardless of which of the timeshare exchanges you use, the process will be pretty similar.
